HOT YOGA AT SUNRISE

Testimonials from Teachers and Students
Bobby Carpenter
As an athlete Bobby knows how important it is to include strength, flexibility and a cardio workout as part of your overall fitness routine. Many years ago a fellow runner invited him to try hot yoga at a local studio as a way of increasing his speed, improving his form and avoiding injury. Being the athlete that he is; a runner, bicyclist, swimmer, kayaker, & tennis player; and having friends in all these activities, (that seemed to always have one injury or another) decided to give hot yoga a try. Within a month of doing hot yoga every day, Bobby’s wife Robin noticed his running stride had greatly improved, he looked more flexible, and was running much faster. Many of his racing friends were noticing his whole style of running had changed and started asking what he was doing to make him improve so dramatically in such a short time. He knew it was the hot yoga! As he continued doing hot yoga every day for a year and a half, he started winning races, playing incredible tennis, doing 2-3 activities a day (and working a full time job) & he felt better than he ever had! His excitement was so great that he told everyone he knew about the benefits of hot yoga – he knew he had found the fountain of youth! Bobby began teaching his fellow racers yoga in the park, before their workouts, using the exact series he had learned from Yoga Loca, and began doing yoga outdoors himself everyday. Eventually he was going to the yoga studio just once in awhile to do the “hot” yoga. He realized his race times were getting slower, he was beginning to get nagging injuries and his energy just wasn’t the same. He directly attributed this to not doing the “hot Yoga”. This yoga series outdoors just didn’t give the same results. He realized the incredible benefits come from the 26 postures done in a heated room. Knowing how great Hot Yoga is for overall health, he started teaching at Yoga Loka. He loved it so much he knew he had to teach the hot yoga series in a studio every day! Bobby and his wife Robin were so dedicated to the practice, they decided to share the benefits and excitement with as many people as possible! On April 9th 2005 “Hot Yoga At Sunrise” was born.

I was like a lot of people, when I first heard of "hot" Yoga - Yoga done in a 105 degree room, I had no doubt - this was not for me! But, after watching Bobby "transform" I realized there really was something very special about this series. I decided to go ahead and try it, pretty much knowing I couldn't take the heat. After my first class I felt so great; I was hooked and realized this really could get me in the best shape of my life - Fast! As Bobby continued doing hot yoga I joined him, practiced at home, and found a studio that I could go to in the mornings before work. I began my formal education devouring as much as I could regarding anything remotely linked to yoga. As time went on we knew we had to do something to share this yoga with our neighbors and friends and create a place that we could do our yoga together and contribute to our community. As it is with things that are meant to be we found a great location right around the corner from home! Since opening the studio in April of 2005 Bobby and I have done the practice and shared the practice every day and continue to grow with our practice our teachers and our students.
Here's what's happening to our students:
They're raving about the improvements happening in their bodies, minds and Spirits! Their toning, losing inches & nagging ailments are going away. They're coming out of class feeling great, and their lives are changing.....
30 DAY CHALLENGE VICTORY STORIES!

30 Day Challenge
Sue Couture
When I first started yoga I would go a couple times a week then miss a week. No
consistency I felt great when I went . I kept on hearing about the 30 day
challenge and didn't really think much about it.
I did my fastest run ever and the 2 things I had changed was a running class and
hot yoga. My sleep pattern was on and off. I've had some back problems. Some
sore joints and just missing the all good feeling.
I was in a class and Tonya was on her 2nd time round. I asked her what she
thought of the class and we talked awhile and then I decided to sign up for the
challenge knowing it could be tough because of work schedule changing weekly the
hours would be different. Somedays were hard because I had to go 2x and a couple
3x a day. I was very tired at the end but felt great. When I only went once a
day it sure was a breeze sometimes. It was great having different instructors
because I like variety. I am very grateful to have had the challenge both
mentally and physically. The yoga has helped my runs, sleep, joints, back and
overall feel good. Thanks to everyone that was so encouraging. Have a blessed
day. Sue C

30 Day Challenge
When I first started at the Sunrise location in mid October of 2007 I was getting in two or three hot yoga classes a week. I remember dealing with an intermittent but nagging neck pain, and a bothersome left knee. Slowly these minor distractions have disappeared and now both feel great.
During my thirty days of daily yoga finishing in mid February, I experienced many interesting changes. The most obvious were visible and I was pleased to observe my abs, gluts and lats showing remarkable definition. A sense of calm and awareness followed every class, and of course I was feeling stronger.
I started to notice subtle breakthroughs during the most difficult asanas (postures). When I least expected a stubborn hamstring finally straightened or a balance pose was completed with much less effort. These were the moments that made all the other days worthwhile.
There were a couple of classes half way through where I struggled for the whole 90 minutes; I had hit the wall. But that passed, just like the temporarily nausea I used to block out during the camel pose.
I firmly believe that a person gets out of something what they put into it. My most memorable experiences have come after a period of struggle, perseverance and finally triumph. Wouldn’t life be boring if everything came easy.
In closing, I am so happy to have re-discovered Bikram Yoga through Bobby, Robin the other teachers and all those who have endured the workouts alongside me. May we all pursue good health and positive relationships via the incredible practice of hatha yoga!

My 30 Day Experience
Jessica Chin
I was very hesitant when signing
up for this challenge. I secretly
promised myself that I would first try it and see how far I got
without signing my name on that paper. But low and behold, I signed my
name on that darn paper. I think my sanity went straight out the door
when I grabbed that black ballpoint pen. My hand was shaking thinking
I was signing my soul away. Only kidding. On a serious note, I have to
say that it was a challenging, but memorable experience. It took a
while for me to actually listen to what my body had to say. I was
doing all this cleansing and detoxing by doing yoga, but I wasn't
listening to what my body needed and that was exactly why my body
wanted to give up when I hit the halfway mark. When I finally figured
it out, the rest of my challenge got a little easier. The remaining
days were winding down and I would never forget the daily
announcements from Bobby that reminded me and everyone else how many
days I had left. A little embarrassing, but it was a nice reminder of
how close I was to my 30 day goal. My recommendation before starting
something as challenging as this: Make sure your mind as well as your
body is ready and let the experience guide you to grow as a person. I
guess the question that remains is: would I do it again...? Yes I
would. I don't know when, but I would try it again...sometime.

Student Stories of Hot Yoga:
Valerie:
I felt like I should write this because of the miracles I really do believe yoga has brought into my life.
At the beginning of this summer I missed my high school graduation because it was also the day my dad got diagnosed with colon cancer with a month to live. I was really high strung and I cleaned the house and did errands all day so I would fall asleep quickly at night without giving myself too much time to think. The reason I came to yoga almost every day was for this reason - it has become the most positive change in my life of recent and it definitely allowed me to become at peace with a lot of things even aside from recent situations. It's become an
outlet for stress even beyond the physical level.
Both Bobby & Robin are amazingly uplifting and positive people and there should be more people like them in the
world! Thank you for brightening my experience! I found a studio in Boston to practice at; until my return, Yoga on!

Hi Bobby and Robin,
My name is Dori Nicholson. I believe I've taken both your classes a few times
and love them. I work night and weekends so I don't make it as much as I would
like to, but I think you have a nice studio. I'm moving to the east coast for
school next month and have been stressed for time which also cuts into my yoga
time. I made it to the 11 o'clock class this morning with Ping and was the only
student. I've never had a one-on-one yoga class and it was awesome, Ping was
awesome! I was stretched and pulled and corrected on my form and encouraged.
With all the craziness from planning my move I couldn't have asked for a better
morning. I feel better than I have in weeks.
Thanks,
Dori

Kem:
Is a student with a bad back, his doctor told him if he wanted to keep walking he needed to do hot yoga. He’s been a faithful student and he tells us his back is getting better all the time, he’s getting stronger and feeling less pain.
Kathy:
Is a student that has fibromyalgia (Chronic muscle pain along with symptoms such as fatigue and sleep problems) and she raves about the difference in her body mentally, spiritually and physically. This series has changed her life from constant pain; hurting all over, all the time, to a sense of joy and hope. She wants to tell people that have this condition to just do this yoga series because two things happen; first you feel more clear headed and more rested, and second the pain in your body lessons as you continue the practice. She is healthier and happier and feels so grateful for the change. There is hope and it can change your life!

We have a real passion for this practice and it’s students like these; watching their improvement, hearing their stories and feeling their gratitude that makes every class a profound experience for all.
Whether it is a race score you want to improve; a life changing ailment you need to address; Or just finding peace in a stressful world; this practice, done regularly, truly is the fountain of youth!
